Safety Wire

Safety wiring nuts and bolts can get confusing if you don’t know how it’s supposed to be done. It can be done by hand but there is also a pair of safety wire pliers that are available that make it faster. I am not a pro at it by any means. It does take some practice to make it look professional. So here is a very good article that explains it really well. I have used it on some brake calipers and also on the hood bolts on some 1930’s through 40’s Fords. I use .032 stainless steel safety wire. You can drill holes into the nuts and bolts using a small bit and going very slowly. I used a 1/16 bit in a drill press in the pictures below. They also make special jigs for this very purpose.
