I was searching old car pictures and came across this very interesting prototype car. The 1948 Tasco. I have always like the futuristic looking cars of the fifties and sixties and had no idea that they had made one as early as 1948. I also like “one off ” cars. The Tasco which stands for ‘The American Sportscar Company” was based on a design by Gordon Buehrig and was built from post World War II aluminum.
The car is the only one ever built and in now on display at the Auburn Cord Duesenburg Museum in Auburn, Indiana.
It really gives you the impression of an aircraft with the glass canopy and the interior with aircraft style guages and controls. Looking at the front it looks like jet air intakes on the sides of the grille.

This photo was taken in Wichita, Kansas in 1948 at Cardwell Manufacturing Company. It was in Wichita, Kansas with the hopes of getting a contract with Beech Aircraft Company for an aviation style automobile. Beech had already built a prototype car in 1946. More on that later. So give me your thoughts on this car. Cool? Ugly? Futuristic?
