Body Filler Spreaders

I started using the metal body filler spreaders a long time ago and have hardly used the plastic ones since. It’s easy to clean the metal spreaders. There are a couple of ways. One is with a scrotch-brite pad and thinner or use a razor blade like I do. Once the filler is just starting to set up just use the razor blade to cut the filler off and you are ready to use it again. Just don’t forget to clean the body filler off or you will have to sand it off.

The metal blade of the spreader lets you spread the filler nice and straight. I always had trouble with the plastic spreaders bowing in the middle while I was trying to smooth the filler. The plastic spreaders work alright for reverse curves where you need some flex. The straighter and smoother you can apply the filler the less sanding you will have to do.

Here are a couple of links to some sources. www.tcpglobal.com and www.repaintsupply.com
