An engine hoist works great for painting heavy stuff such as rear axles. Just use a good piece of chain and some good bolts that are long enough to go through the holes in the yoke. Make sure they are secure before you go rolling it around and especially working under it. If you don’t want any paint on the hoist just cover it up with some plastic sheet or large paper. The hoist will make the job a little easier because you can lift the axle high enough to work on and around. You will also be able to move the axle around the shop easier too. Before we painted this axle the brakes were masked off and the axle was carefully sandblasted. We also did the sandblasting with the axle on the hoist. We then rolled the axle into the spray booth where it was cleaned, prepped and painted semi-gloss black.
