Paint Can tip

Have you ever hammered a lid back onto a paint can and it splattered all over the wall and your good shirt? The next time you open a new can of paint take an awl and punch some holes into the bottom part where the lid sits. I usually punch holes about every inch or so. This will let the paint drain back into the can before you put the lid on. It also gives the paint somewhere to go (back into the can) instead of splattering all over when you put the lid back on. If you use the can a lot you will still get some build up of paint around the edge but not as bad. The can will still stay sealed. I have had cans on the shelf for many years like this and none have dried out from doing this.
