1949 Mercury Convertible Restoration Part 22

With this restoration there are several things going on at the same time. We have been bead-blasting and painting a lot of the chassis parts such as the a-arms, spindles, brake and clutch arms, etc. so that we can re-assemble the frame. There have been a lot of other parts that have been bead-blasted and epoxy primered that are just waiting until we need them.
At the same time this is being done there are still rust repairs being made to the floors and structure of the body.

This is part of the left front floor board. I found a company that sells the entire floor panels but I couldn’t bring myself to purchase the entire panel just for some small pieces that I could easily make.

This part was made with three bends in the sheetmetal brake. I then slit the ends with a cut-off wheel and hammered the ends to match the original bead in the floor. It took a couple of attemps on some scrap metal to get the right depth of the bead.

This is the left floor panel after it was pieced in and welded with the panels that I fabricated.

Here are a few parts that have been bead-blasted and sprayed with epoxy primer. The parts are the fuel door, interior fresh air vents and the speaker grille.

Here are some more… a trunk hinge, some convertible top parts and the fuel neck panel.

Some parts have returned from the plater. They are really nice.
