Here is an easy way to repair those old worn out glass run channels. This simple repair will make your windows roll up and down much better and also stop those annoying window rattles.

All you need is some material from Metro Moulded Parts called channel liner. They have several widths and lengths. I like to use their mohair liner as I think it works the best. You can also get some thick felt at a fabric shop but it might not wear as long.

You will also need some glue like 3M Super Trim Adhesive #08090 or 3M Super 77 and a blunt tool to push the fabric into the channel.

Spray the glue into the channel and also the back of the channel liner. Let it get tacky. Follow the directions on the can for best results. Fold the liner in half and insert it into the channel. It will want to stick to both sides. Use the blunt tool to push the liner down into the channel and push it into the corners. Try to keep it centered the best you can because if you don’t you might come up short on one side.

Once you have it all positioned in the channel then you can glue the remaining material to fold over the edges, just like it was originally.

Stumble it!

Steve, I went to the Metro Moulded Parts link you provided looking for the liner itself but couldn’t find any. All I saw was U-channel with liner already in it. I called customer service to see if they could point me to just the liner material and they said they don’t sell it that way. Would you happen to have a part number that I could ask them about or search their site for? I appreciate your help and thanks for the info in your post about replacing the liner.
Regards,
Ed

Ed, Thanks for asking. I went to their website and under “universal parts” is “channel liner” .
The part numbers are cc22, cc33 and cc34. I have mainly used cc33, it’s really good stuff and makes the windows roll up like brand new. If it is unavailable from Metro let me know and I might have another source. Hope this helps!

Steve, I see it now. I went to the Window Channels section. I should have looked closer. Thought the customer service guy would have told me to look at the Channel Liner section. Anyway’s, that’s what I’m looking for and thanks again for the help. I really do appreciate it!
Best of luck,
Ed
